New Mexico Jan. 6 Capitol Protest

About

As a precaution prompted by the violence in Washington, D.C., the New Mexico Statehouse in Santa Fe was largely evacuated as approximately 500 Donald Trump supporters demonstrated in front of the building on Jan. 6, 2021, protesting Joe Biden’s electoral victory. Some were armed. The governor’s and secretary of state’s offices were evacuated along with those of many other lawmakers. Some protesters rode on horseback, and others came in cars and trucks. There was at least one altercation between Trump supporters and counterprotesters.
