Based on the violence that had already erupted in Washington that day, the New Mexico statehouse in Santa Fe was largely evacuated on Jan. 6, 2021 as a precaution as approximately 500 Trump supporters demonstrated outside, protesting President Biden’s electoral victory. Some protesters were armed, some rode on horseback, and others came in cars and trucks. At least one altercation between Trump supporters and counterprotesters took place.
