Eighty Percent Coalition

About

The Eighty Percent Coalition (EPC) was founded in late 2020 by Cindy Chafian (formerly affiliated with Women for America First), largely to unite conservatives around shared beliefs such as questioning the validity of the 2020 presidential election, according to WUSA9. The name, she explained, is based on “Reagan’s rule that one should stand with someone if they share 80% of their beliefs instead of focusing on the 20% where they differ.”

According to the group’s former website, the Eighty Percent Coalition “is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating the socialist policies that harm all families, businesses, schools, and churches.” However, as of August 2022, the Internal Revenue Service had not yet approved it as a bona fide nonprofit.

January 6, 2021

  • Eighty Percent Coalition was listed as one of 11 major supporters participating in the Jan. 6 rally and March to Save America, which was held at the Ellipse. It had been listed on the rally website, which has since been taken down.
  • On Jan. 8, 2021, the coalition withdrew an application to hold another rally on Jan. 16, 2021, according to the Washingtonian.

The Big Lie

  • The Washingtonian also reported that EPC organized the Jan. 5, 2021 Rally for Revival, which was held at the Freedom Plaza in Washington, D.C. Chafian told WUSA9 that EPC organized the rally in order “to save America.”
  • According to reporting by WUSA9 on Jan. 5, 2021, “Organizers of The Silent Majority and the Eighty Percent Coalition said they hope to see representatives share the concerns of some of their constituents during Wednesday’s congressional meeting to certify the results—and object.”
