Descend on the Capitol Conference Call

About

On Dec. 30, 2020, an associate of Roger Stone named Jason Sullivan led a conference call with an unknown number of Trump supporters, urging them to “descend on the Capitol” a week later—on Jan. 6, 2021—to prevent the congressional certification of President Biden’s Electoral College win of the election. At least one member of the far-right paramilitary organization 1st Amendment Praetorian participated in the call.

During the call, Sullivan pleaded with supporters to show up at the Capitol to pressure lawmakers to vote against certifying the election results. He said that while he wasn’t calling for “violence or any kind of riots,” congresspeople could be intimidated by “breathing down their necks.”

Sullivan also told those on the conference call that Trump would be taking his own action, including imposing a form of martial law on Jan. 6 that would allow him to remain in office.

January 6, 2021

  • On Dec. 30, 2020, Sullivan held the call as part of an effort by prominent Trump supporters to pressure lawmakers in Washington and across the country to find ways to prevent the official certification of the 2020 presidential election results and the traditional transition of power in January.
  • Sullivan suggested that Trump would institute “some form of martial law” and insisted that lawmakers in the Capitol “need to feel that pressure.” It is unclear if he took part in March to Save America or other events that preceded the attack on the Capitol.
