Tracey Mann

About

Tracey Mann (R-Kan.) was first sworn in to the U.S. House of Representatives on Jan. 3, 2021, representing Kansas’ 1st Congressional District. He ran for reelection in 2022 with Trump’s endorsement and won in his solidly Republican district.

Mann is a fifth-generation farmer who worked in real estate and served as lieutenant governor of Kansas, and calls himself “a tireless advocate for Kansas agriculture and conservative Kansas values.” In Congress, he supported a bill that would extend tax benefits for so-called “Opportunity Zone” economic development areas, which would directly impact more than $500,000 of his own investments

After the 2020 presidential election, Mann adhered to the GOP playbook by spreading the Big Lie and casting doubt on the legitimacy of the process. He voted against certifying Biden’s Electoral College win, impeaching Trump for inciting the mob, and establishing a special House committee to investigate the insurrection, among other measures.

January 6, 2021

  • On Jan. 6, Mann tweeted that he had signed a letter committing to object to the outcome of the 2020 election in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
  • Just hours after Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, he joined 146 other congressional Republicans in refusing to certify Biden’s win of the 2020 presidential election.
  • Mann voted against impeaching Trump for his role in instigating the attack on Congress and the Capitol, and for fanning the flames once the riot broke out. In justifying his vote, he issued a statement saying, in part: “Impeachment will only lead to further division in our great nation and add to the political chaos. We will have a peaceful transition of power on January 20th. I will not oversee the slow decline of our nation, but instead will work to ensure a bright future for our children and grandchildren.”
  • Mann voted against establishing a House committee to investigate what led to the violent assault on the Capitol and disruption of the congressional procedure underway that day.
  • In October 2021, Mann voted against holding Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a subpoena issued by the House Select Committee investigating the attack on the Capitol.

The Big Lie

  • Mann repeatedly spread disinformation online about the results of the 2020 election.
  • Mann urged supporters to donate to Trump’s election audit fund.
  • Mann’s loyalty to Trump remains unassailable. In August 2022, after the FBI seized government documents from the former president’s home in Mar-a-Lago, Mann issued an outraged statement saying, in part: “The raid of President Trump’s home on Monday was a brazen political weaponization of the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice…. This seizure of former President Trump’s property is an embarrassment, it’s un-American, it sets a horrible precedent, and it’s an abuse of our country’s justice system.”
