About
Patrick Morrissey (R) was first elected as attorney general of West Virginia in 2012 and is now serving his third term, which runs through 2024. He is a member of the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA), which was involved in sending out robocalls to get Trump supporters to come to Washington on Jan. 6, 2021 to protest about a stolen election. In 2014, Morrissey led a legal challenge with 12 other states against then-President Obama’s Clean Power Plan, which threatened the coal industry that is central to the local economy. In 2018, he ran for the U.S. Senate hoping to unseat Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.), but narrowly lost.
The Big Lie
Morrissey signed an amicus brief in support of a lawsuit filed with the U.S. Supreme Court by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton challenging the outcome of the 2020 presidential election in four states.
