August Pfluger (R-Texas) was first sworn in to the U.S. House of Representatives on Jan. 3, 2021, representing Texas’ 11th Congressional District. He ran for reelection in 2022 with Trump’s endorsement and won.
Prior to running for office, Pfluger served as a fighter pilot in the Air Force for almost two decades, working for the Pentagon and NATO, and is now a colonel in the Air Force Reserves.
Since joining Congress, Pfluger has faced allegations of violating the STOCK Act after being late in disclosing numerous stock purchases or sales he or his wife made in January or March 2021. He is also a member of the ultra-conservative Republican Study Committee.
After the 2020 presidential election, Pfluger voted against certifying the Electoral College results, impeaching Trump for inciting the mob, and establishing a special House committee to investigate the insurrection, among other measures.
In August 2022, Pfluger continued to show absolute fealty to Trump by expressing outrage at the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago, tweeting that the government’s search for sensitive documents is: “a continuation of the biggest political scandal in U.S history where Democrats, the media, others in the government have plotted against President Trump at every turn.”January 6, 2021

- Just hours after Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, Pfluger joined 146 other congressional Republicans in refusing to certify Biden’s win of the 2020 presidential election.
- Pfluger opposed impeaching Trump for his role in instigating an insurrection. In a statement, the congressman wrote: “This rushed impeachment… will only further divide our country and alienate the over 74 million Americans who voted for President Trump and support conservative values.”
- Pfluger voted against establishing a House committee to investigate the Jan. 6 attack.
The Big Lie
- In December 2020, Pfluger signed a letter with 25 other House members-elect calling on Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to investigate presidential election irregularities.
- In opposing certification of Electoral College votes from Arizona and Pennsylvania, Pfluger called for a “full debate on all matters related to the election.” He further stated: “For our democracy to function everyone must trust in it, and millions of Americans right now do not.”
- On Jan. 6, 2021, Pfluger said that he hoped to present some of the arguments raised in the Texas v. Pennsylvania lawsuit that had been thrown out by the U.S. Supreme Court the previous month for the record in the House.
- In January 2021, Pfluger joined with the Republican Study Committee to introduce the Save Democracy Act. The legislation proposed numerous changes to ballot tabulation in federal elections, such as requiring that at least two representatives of each presidential campaign in a general election be permitted to observe polls and vote-counting operations; ballot counting, once begun, continue until completed; and ballot tabulation systems be audited within the 30-day period following a federal election.
