Arizona Fake Electors

Eleven Republican residents of Arizona attempted to subvert the results of the 2020 presidential election by submitting fake Electoral College documents to Congress as part of the Jan. 6. 2021 certification process.

Attack on the Capitol

The attack began around 2 pm on Jan. 6, 2021, shortly after Trump finished speaking at the March to Save America rally, where he urged his supporters to proceed to the Capitol and “fight like hell” to stop the certification of the Electoral College results underway in a joint session of Congress.

Bolick, Shawnna

Shawnna Bolick was a member of the Arizona House of Representatives from 2019–23, where she served on the Elections and Federal Relations committees and as vice chair of the Ways and Means Committee. Before being elected in 2018, she worked for multiple right-wing politicians and think tanks.

The Council for National Policy (CNP) is a Christian Right influence organization that has set the movement’s agenda for decades, focusing on political strategy, media, and grassroots organizing. CNP describes itself as bringing “together the country’s most influential conservative leaders in business, government, politics, religion, and academia to hear and learn from policy experts on a wide range of issues.”

DonorsTrust

DonorsTrust is a 501(c)(3) public charity founded in 1999 by Whitney Ball, a libertarian who had held key roles at the Cato Institute and the Philanthropy Roundtable, as well as being a board member of the State Policy Network (SPN). Mother Jones calls DonorsTrust the “dark-money ATM of the conservative movement” since it was set up explicitly to allow investors to bankroll institutions and activities while obscuring their own identities.

Ellis, Jenna

Jenna Ellis is a right-wing Christian lawyer who served as a legal adviser to Trump during his final year in office. In October 2023, she admitted to breaking the law in supporting Trump’s false claims of election fraud and struck a plea deal with prosecutors in Georgia.
