Trump supporters gathered outside the Texas state Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 to protest alleged election fraud and the certification of Biden’s victory. Hundreds assembled on the Capitol grounds in Austin waiving Trump signs and flags. Some Facebook and social media posts shared by private citizens called the event “Operation Occupy The Capitol Texas.” According to media reports, the event was organized by a variety of pro-Trump groups. The demonstrations were largely peaceful, but Department of Public Safety officials closed the building and the grounds out of “an abundance of caution.”
