Jan. 6 Capitol Protest—Washington

About

Washington state police estimated that approximately 300 people protested President Biden’s electoral victory in front of the state capitol in Olympia on Jan. 6, 2021, with a smaller number then shifting the protest to the governor’s mansion.

Joey Gibson, founder of the far-right group Patriot Prayer, addressed the crowd, saying in reference to Democrats, various state election officials, and the numerous judges across the country who had been asked to rule on the legitimacy of the election: “We cannot allow these criminals to run this country.”

After the gathering at the Capitol, approximately 50 protesters — some armed — continued to march across the Capitol grounds and broke through the gate at the governor’s mansion, demanding that Governor Jay Inslee (D) be arrested. No arrests were made.
